Scannell Properties Breaks Ground in Sutton, MA For $28 Million Facility
Primetals Technology is a joint venture of Mitsubishi-Hitachi Metals Machinery and Siemens VAI Metals Technologies that employs about 7,000 people worldwide and makes machinery that turns metals into usable materials. The new facility will be home to its future research and office center. The building is slated for occupancy in Q2 of 2020.
The building will replace an existing aging facility and provide a modern 183,000-square-foot space on 16 acres on Gilmore Road where Primetals can attract workers and innovate.
"We are excited to be involved in the delivery of this new state of the art heavy manufacturing facility," says Tim Elam, Managing Director, Scannell Properties. "Primetals has a unique manufacturing process that requires detailed coordination throughout the design process and implementation of complex structures and MEP systems. We look forward to the challenge of delivering this facility and exceeding their expectations."
Scannell Properties is developing the project and will lease the property to Primetals. JM Coull Inc. of Maynard is the General Contractor.
Primetals’ move comes as the steel industry is seeking ways to make plants more efficient through automation, energy improvements and waste management and the company hopes its new facility will attract talented workers who can fuel innovation.
