Scannell Properties Complete New Building for BAE Systems

(Fort Wayne, IN)–A ribbon cutting ceremony on September 23 marked the official opening of a new state-of-the-art home for BAE Systems, Inc., producers of aviation electronics for Boeing, the military and other aircraft, and one of the six largest suppliers to the US Department of Defense.

The British company is headquartered in London with operations worldwide including their new location in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

The new 334,000 square-foot building off Airport Expressway was designed to offer BAE employees a better quality of life/work experience and offers a wellness center and a walking path connected to trails and facilities where families can gather and eat together.

BAE in Fort Wayne employs approximately 1,100 people and the new facility will be fully occupied by the end of December. For the past 15 years BAE employees worked in a 1940’s era style building on Taylor Street where parts for B-17s were originally made.

“It was an amazing transformation from a 1940’s era building into a new, modern, manufacturing and office building on a new site,” says Cresa’s Gene Sachs, managing principal of the corporate real estate advisory firm that worked with Scannell. “Scannell is a fantastic partner, and worked well throughout this design and construction process.”

Scannell Managing Director Courtney Lehman adds, “This state of the art manufacturing facility is a direct result of Scannell’s ability to be flexible, lean, quick and thorough throughout the entire Development Process.  Arco National Construction partnered with Scannell on this challenging facility and produced a Class A facility ahead of schedule.  We are confident BAE Systems will enjoy many years of lean manufacturing in Fort Wayne as a result of this new project.”
